OSI/FCO Essex Chevening Scholarships in Human Rights

The OSI/FCO University of Essex Chevening Scholarships in Human Rights is a scholarship programme which will enable suitably qualified students from selected countries, including Kazakhstan, to pursue taught postgraduate programmes within the Human Rights Centre at the University of Essex.

Fields of Study Offered:
The two programmes offered are the MA in the Theory and Practice of Human Rights and the LLM in International Human Rights Law.

Eligibility:

Applicants should:

1. be nationals of and normally resident in one of the selected countries at the time of applying for the award, and are expected to return to their home countries; applicants who are temporarily out of the country at the time of application (for a total period of less than 3 consecutive months) may be treated as being resident;

2. already hold (or expect to hold by the time of taking up the award) a relevant first degree with good grades;

3. have passed a IELTS test at an appropriate level (7) by the time of taking up an award;

4. normally have relevant practical experience;

5. commit to returning to their home country at the end of their scholarship period to continue their studies/ work there;

6. not have already received of be currently receiving financial benefit from a previous HMG funded scholarship;

7. not be employees, employees’ relatives (of former employees who have left employment less than 2 years before) of FCO (including FCO posts), the British Council, the Educational Advising Centers or other OSI-NSP representations in the region and the participating universities.

Financial Terms:

Each award will provide for payment of academic tuition fees, examination fees, a monthly stipend for living expenses sufficient for a single student, and other agreed allowances including one return economy airfare.

Application Process:

Applicants should read all instructions and information carefully before completing the application. All forms are to be completed in English. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Applicants can submit 4 copies of applications (one original and three copies).
